 | | The Cross That River Experience
| | 3/30/2008 - New York based jazz vocalist Allan Harris wrote Cross That River to empower Americans with an inspiring story about the Black West; a story which he yearned to learn about when he was a child. Cross That River is a concert, a trilogy of audio recordings, a musical and a novel. The recordings have been totally funded by grants and fans of the Cross That River Experience. The band has been touring America in schools, performing arts centers, and museums across the country. Cross That River House parties have been held in New York,Pennsylvania, Nevada, South Carolina, Kansas City and California. The story is based upon historical fiction about an escaped slave named Blue who makes his way to freedom in the West where he works as a Cowboy on the Circle T Ranch. Harris and Cross That River are the recipients of the esteemed Chamber Music America Residency Grant Award for 2006/07; three songs from Cross That River have been chosen for the Oklahoma State Education DVD to educate children all over the state of Oklahoma about the Black West; NPR featured Cross That River on “All Things Considered;” the Aspen Literary Festival debuted Cross That River in their new program: Literally Speaking; and the Kennedy Center has chosen to present Cross That River to schools all over America via a satellite broadcast as part of their Distance Learning Program this coming October.
