Review of Allan Harris and the Poetry of Jazz
Allan Harris, Narrations in Jazz Music
Allan Harris is a singer-guitarist born in Brooklyn and raised in Harlem. This origin definitely influences the musical tastes of anyone who lives there and with his concert at the Blue Note Milano we had confirmation of this.
Already known to the Italian public, also for his appearances at Umbria Jazz, but for his first time on the stage of the famous Milanese venue, he brought his project "The Poetry of Jazz", in which, with his warm and enveloping baritone voice he alternated narrations with jazz and blues standards, as well as original songs.
In his career he has received numerous awards such as winning the New York Nightlife Award three times as "Outstanding Jazz Vocalist" and the DownBeat award as "Rising Star Jazz Vocalist"
Harris, gifted with a notable stage presence, established an engaging relationship with the large audience, testifying to his deep knowledge of the American songbook and his experience as a crooner.
Accompanying him was a trio of talented Italian musicians, including the talented percussionist Massimo Orselli, who has appeared on the Blue Note stage several times, following Incognito and Dirotta su Cuba.
Among the most acclaimed songs by the public, "New Day" was a true hymn to rebirth, hope and the power of love, with a fusion of jazz, soul and blues elements.
Thanks to Blue Note Milano for their availability and hospitality.
